Family Mental Fitness

We can SHINE together

We can SHINE togetherWe can SHINE together

At Family Mental Fitness North East CIC, we are committed to making mental health and wellbeing support accessible for every child, young person, and family who needs it  without long waits or unnecessary barriers.

We are in the early stages of delivering our services, with initial programmes already running in the community. These have included:

• Family relaxation sessions

• Online addiction awareness workshops for young people

• Sleep hygiene and sensory sleep strategies for parents and children

• Wellbeing activities in community spaces

These first sessions have confirmed what we already knew — there is a strong, urgent need for accessible, creative, and non-stigmatising support across our region.

We operate a fully funded place model for eligible families, with programme costs covering qualified facilitator pay, resources, administration, and evaluation.

Funders and partners can download our Funding Pack for full details of programme rates and our sustainability model.

What Could Your Funding Provide?

Drawing and Talking Therapy

Read to Feel Therapeutic Book Club

Sleep Stars Group Sleep Coaching

Drawing and Talking Therapy offers compassionate, one-to-one therapeutic support tailored for children facing emotional challenges such as anxiety, trauma, or behavioural difficulties.

This non-verbal, creative approach provides a safe space where children can express feelings and experiences they may struggle to put into words, through art and guided conversation.

Delivered by trained practitioners, the therapy fosters emotional resilience, self-awareness, and improved wellbeing, helping children to build coping skills that translate to better engagement at school and at home. Sponsoring this therapy enables vulnerable children to access vital mental health support that can transform their life trajectory in a nurturing and confidential setting.

Sleep Stars Group Sleep Coaching

Read to Feel Therapeutic Book Club

Sleep Stars Group Sleep Coaching

Sleep Stars is an 8 week therapeutic sleep programme designed for children and their parents/carers to attend together.

In areas where poor sleep hygiene contributes to emotional dysregulation, school absence, and family stress, this gentle, sensory-based approach empowers families with tools they can use every night.

Each session combines proprioceptive calming activities, a guided progressive muscle relaxation, and a weekly takeaway such as a sleep tracker, worry stone, or affirmation card.

By embedding predictable, sensory-supported bedtime routines, Sleep Stars supports emotional regulation, improves attendance and wellbeing, and strengthens the parent–child bond. Your sponsorship will enable access for families who would otherwise be excluded, providing them with simple, life-changing skills in a supportive, non-stigmatising environment.

Read to Feel Therapeutic Book Club

Read to Feel is a unique 8-week book club that blends shared reading with therapeutic expression, designed for children aged 8–11.

In communities where trauma and adversity often go unspoken, this project uses accessible chapter books to spark imagination, build resilience, and offer a safe space for emotional sharing.

Each session includes a read-aloud of a selected chapter, a gentle reflective activity linked to wellbeing themes like friendship, courage, or empathy, and a creative takeaway such as a kindness postcard or bravery badge.

Every child receives a copy of the book to take home, encouraging a love of reading and extending the emotional impact beyond the session. Sponsor a child or a full club and help create calm, connection, and confidence through story.
