Art Therapy for Teens uses themed creative activities to support emotional expression and self-awareness in a safe group setting.
Purpose
To give teenagers a non-verbal outlet for processing emotions, exploring identity, and building self-confidence through art-making. Each young person chooses a personal theme to explore over the course, culminating in a final piece for an online showcase.
Impact
The themed sessions provide structure while allowing for personal interpretation, helping participants express complex feelings they may struggle to put into words.
Outcome
Increased self-esteem, reduced stress, and improved ability to reflect on personal experiences in a healthy, creative way.
Art Therapy for Teens – Example Session
The week’s theme is “shields and strengths.” Using mixed media—paints, textures, and collage—teens design a symbolic shield that reflects their personal strengths and support systems. Music plays softly as they work, and the atmosphere is relaxed but purposeful. Each young person decides whether to share their work or keep it private, and takes it home as a reminder of what makes them resilient.
How many children will be there?
Small group – 4 to 8 teens
What does it cost?
