Professor Pace is our way of making big ideas fun and friendly for children.
The series began with A Scientific Guide to Your Best Night’s Sleep, co-written by Kay and her 11-year-old son Freddy, inspired by his own sleep journey.
The series continued to grow with A Sky Full of Poems, featuring a host of young poets from across the region.
Now, with book three, Through Their Lens, we’re inviting young people from across the North East to become published photographers, sharing the places, people and details that make our region special — through their lens.
The North East, photographed by young people
Could you be a published photographer?
We’re inviting young people aged 5–18 to show us the North East through their eyes for our third Professor Pace Presents… book.
You don’t need a fancy device, photographs taken on a phone, tablet or camera are all welcome. We’re interested in what you notice: familiar landmarks, favourite places and the little details other people might walk straight past.

Selected photographs will be published in our full-colour book, planned for Christmas 2026, and our judging panel will choose an overall favourite to receive a £50 voucher of their choice.
Entries must be submitted by a parent/carer, or by a school, youth group or community organisation with appropriate parental permission.
Important: People can appear in photographs, but please don't include identifiable faces.
