Mental fitness is built through everyday experiences.
Family Mental Fitness North East CIC provides early intervention and preventative wellbeing support for children, families and communities.
Our work creates opportunities to build positive relationships, confidence, connection, creativity, coping skills and resilience — strengthening the everyday foundations that help children thrive.
We believe children shouldn't have to reach crisis point before their wellbeing matters. By creating safe, supportive opportunities to play, learn, connect, experience challenge and succeed, we aim to strengthen the protective experiences around children and families.
Sometimes that looks like a wellbeing intervention. Sometimes it looks like building, planting, playing, creating or simply spending positive time together.

Positive experiences that support everyday wellbeing.
Our open-access community programmes create opportunities for children and families to play, create, connect and spend positive time together.
Activities are relaxed, accessible and designed to strengthen relationships, confidence, belonging and the everyday experiences that support wellbeing and resilience.
No referral or identified difficulty is needed.
Includes family programmes, Dads & Male Carers, creative and outdoor activities, community events and holiday provision.
Additional support when difficulties are beginning to emerge.
Our targeted programmes provide more structured support for children who may be experiencing difficulties with emotional wellbeing, confidence, regulation, relationships, engagement or coping with everyday challenges. Support is relational and responsive, using creative, play-based, sensory and practical approaches to help children feel safe, express themselves, develop coping strategies and build confidence through experience.
Includes Sycamore Wellbeing and individual or small-group interventions.
Working together to meet identified local need.
We work with schools, health services, local authorities and voluntary and community organisations to develop and deliver preventative and targeted wellbeing support. This can include commissioned programmes, referral-based interventions, school and community delivery, individual or small-group work and bespoke projects developed around the needs of a particular group or community.
We welcome conversations with organisations interested in commissioning, funding or developing work with us.

Different programmes have different age ranges, eligibility criteria and routes to access.
Not sure which pathway is right for you? We’ll help you find the most appropriate support.
Targeted therapeutic wellbeing intervention
Sycamore is our structured six-week intervention for children who would benefit from additional support with emotional wellbeing, confidence, regulation, relationships or engagement.
Delivered from our yurt and outdoor space at The Lighthouse Project in Byker, Sycamore uses relational, creative, sensory and nature-based approaches to give children opportunities to feel safe, build trust, express themselves, experience success and develop ways of navigating challenge.
Support can be delivered individually or in small groups depending on the pathway and needs of the child.
A family-focused wellbeing pathway supporting emotional regulation, sensory needs and healthier sleep routines for children and young people.
This pathway combines:
Support may include workshops, small group programmes, family sessions and Sleep Lab resources designed to help children and families better understand how the brain and body prepare for rest, regulation and recovery. We have a published book to support this programme A Scientific Guide to Your Best Nights Sleep , co authored with a 10 year old sleep apnea sufferer.
Building connection through ordinary moments
Connected Families brings children and their parents or carers together through relaxed, enjoyable shared experiences.
Through play, creativity, sensory activities, nature, making and conversation, families have opportunities to spend positive time together, meet others and strengthen connections within their community.
Sessions are intentionally low-pressure. Families don't need to arrive with a problem to solve or talk about their wellbeing. Sometimes connection grows simply because people have been given the time, space and something enjoyable to do together.
Supported by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Practical support helping children and families better understand sleep, sensory needs, routines and the ways our bodies prepare for rest.
Support can include sleep education, sensory strategies, relaxation, bedtime routines, family workshops and our Sleep Lab resources.
Our published children's book, A Scientific Guide to Your Best Night's Sleep, was co-created with a young person with lived experience of sleep apnoea — bringing together accessible science and a child's perspective.
A LEGO session, therapeutic intervention, family planting activity and quiet creative group may look very different.
What connects them is what we're creating opportunities for children and families to experience:
feeling safe enough to participate
finding ways to regulate and recover
playing, imagining and creating
building positive relationships
trying, learning, adapting and growing.
Safe · Calm · Create · Connect · Grow.
And that's what we mean by Family Mental Fitness.
